Google’s not slowing down.
Google is not slowing down in its AI advancements. AI Overviews, the AI-generated summaries at the top of search results, are now being used by over 1.5 billion people every month. This feature, launched in May 2024, has rapidly expanded its reach, covering a broader range of queries and incorporating ads to compete with other AI search tools like ChatGPT Search and Perplexity.

The growth isn't limited to AI Overviews. Circle to Search, a feature that allows users to search anything on their Android phone without switching apps, is now available on more than 250 million devices. Usage of Circle to Search rose close to 40% quarter-over-quarter, according to the company. This tool enables users to select any item on their screen with gestures like circling or highlighting, providing immediate search results without disrupting their current activity.

Additionally, Google Lens continues to see significant growth, with searches increasing by 5 billion since October. The number of people shopping on Lens was up over 10% in Q1, indicating a steady rise in visual search adoption. Google Lens allows users to search what they see using their camera, making it easier to identify objects, translate text, and explore the world around them.

These advancements are part of Google's broader AI strategy, which includes the development of Gemini 2.5, Google's most advanced AI model to date. CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted the company's AI initiatives during the Q1 2025 earnings call, emphasizing the role of AI in driving growth and enhancing user experiences across Google's platforms.

With these tools, Google is reshaping the search landscape, making information more accessible and interactions more intuitive. As AI continues to evolve, users can expect even more innovative features that seamlessly integrate into their daily digital experiences.
